This VITAL nutrient that you may have NEVER heard of!
Hello everyone this is Dr. Shea Breneman and today I wanted to share some information about one of the most VITAL nutrients for your brain that nobody talks about! This vital nutrient is called PROPRIOCEPTION. Your spine is literally PACKED with tiny receptors that are designed to communicate with the brain... the multifidus muscle of your spine is more proprioceptor dense than ANY other place in your body. When our spine isn't moving properly or often enough this lack of proprioception can cause some serious problems such as stress, anxiety, brain fog, ADHD and depression. There is also evidence that proprioception is impaired in autism spectrum disorders such as Asperger's.
We are hardwired to utilize movement to stimulate and feed our brains! This healthy movement fires the neurological pathways that influence learning and concentration (the hippocampus), stress and anxiety (the amygdala), and parts of the brain that control stress physiology (the hypothalamus). This is why sitting all day makes you tired and brain fogged and getting up and moving around or receiving a chiropractic adjustment energizes you and clears your head. Proprioception is the MAJOR source of positive body thoughts and energy to run our nervous system.
So get up and move today! Try and do some light stretching, go for a quick walk, try yoga... and get your spine checked! It is not possible to have proper nerve flow to your brain without a healthy proprioceptive system.
